Texas requires laser hair removal technicians to complete a four-tier licensing process regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR): Level 1 — Apprentice (40-hour TDLR-approved course), Level 2 — Technician (100 supervised client treatments), Level 3 — Senior Technician (advanced autonomy and mentorship eligibility), and Level 4 — Professional (TDLR licensing exam). Each level must be completed in sequence at a TDLR-approved facility. La Vida’s laser courses satisfy the Texas laser certification requirements at every tier.
The laser licensing process that Texas technicians must follow begins with enrollment in a TDLR-approved 40-hour Apprentice course. After completing Level 1, students log 100 supervised treatments to advance to full Technician status (Level 2), then complete the Senior designation (Level 3) before sitting for the TDLR Professional exam (Level 4). A Laser Safety Officer must be present at any facility where laser procedures are performed, and medical director supervision is required in most practice settings.
The first tier, the Apprentice license, requires 40 hours of TDLR-approved training. Level 2 requires 100 documented supervised client treatments. Levels 3 and 4 build on those foundations through the Senior designation and Professional exam. All hours and treatments must be completed at a TDLR-approved facility, such as La Vida.
Yes. La Vida Laser & Aesthetics Institute is a fully TDLR-approved training facility accredited by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). Every laser course — from the 40-Hour Apprentice through Senior and Professional exam preparation — satisfies the Texas laser certification requirements established by TDLR.
For laser hair removal courses (Levels 1–4), there are no prior licensing requirements for enrollment; however, a medical background is strongly recommended for injectable courses. For Botox and Dermal Filler certifications, students must possess licensure as a physician, physician assistant, or nurse, or work under direct physician supervision. For advanced aesthetics courses such as microneedling, a Medical Director must be able to perform treatments independently after certification.
All La Vida programs require the following: minimum age of 18 years at the time of application, a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and proficiency in English and/or Spanish for Spanish-instructed courses. Some advanced programs have additional prerequisites; see individual course pages for specifics. No prior aesthetic experience is required for enrollment in Level 1 laser hair removal.
La Vida’s laser and aesthetics courses total 8 hours in a hybrid format — 4 hours of self-paced online theory and 4 hours of in-person, hands-on training. Online modules are accessible immediately upon enrollment. In-person training dates are scheduled within 2–4 weeks of enrollment, Monday through Saturday. Students retain portal access for 12 months after enrollment.
Yes. La Vida is one of Houston’s few aesthetic institutes offering fully bilingual instruction in English and Spanish. Course materials, clinical sessions, and student support are available in both languages. Bilingual instruction is available across laser certifications, injectable courses, and advanced aesthetic programs. Students may also enroll in Spanish-specific course sections where available.
All La Vida certification courses follow a hybrid delivery model. Upon enrollment, students gain immediate access to the online theory portion, self-paced video lectures, and chapter assessments available 24/7 through the student portal. The online portion must be completed before attending the in-person clinical session. The in-person day includes a live instructor demonstration and supervised hands-on training on a live model. In-person dates are scheduled within 2–4 weeks of enrollment at La Vida’s Houston campus.
Flexible payment plans are available at checkout through Klarna, Affirm, and AfterPay/ClearPay. Payment plan availability may vary by course. Tuition ranges from $150 for continuing education and specialty courses to $995 for core certification programs. All materials, filler products (where applicable), and supplies for in-person training are included in the enrollment fee.
